Pink & Blue Cupcakes for Auntie Emma

Ordered by Auntie Emma for her kid's birthday at school. The cupcakes are supposed to be given away as gifts to the kids rasa-nya. She initially wanted something of butterfly theme. But after seeing these, she changed her mind. Thanks to Dya for promoting!!

Since the cupcakes were to be given away as gifts, Auntie Emma has also requested for the cupcakes to be packed individually. Senang nak bahagi-bahagi, and nak bawak balik.

The cupcakes are all in chocolate flavor. There are 50 of them altogether. Auntie Emma requested for the same design i.e. with 3 small roses, 25 pieces with pink background and another 25 with blue background. Sweet jek nampak. This design is actually suitable for wedding gifts too.

Lepas pack-pack, the 50 cupcakes are now ready to be delivered in 3 boxes. Thanks to my brother who has helped me to do the special delivery that night. Thanks to Auntie Emma for the order. And last but not least, thanks to my dearest Dya for the promo of my kedai!!

When we are blessed with some free time, kami anak beranak biasanya akan berbaking. It's Zara's no 1 favorite thing to do. Especially lepas dah beribu-ribu kali dok ulang tengok orang baking kat YouTube. Harus-lah nak mencuba bake sendiri pulak kan.

For this purpose, I only used a dash of coloring in the mixture. Malas nak membazir tak tentu pasal. The coloring pun is not cheap. Asal colorful sudahhhh...yang penting anak happy.

Disney Princess Birthday Cake

This was one of the many orders that we did prior to Puasa/Raya 2011. Ordered by Ida, a returned customer of Izzy Bakery.

The cake was made for her daughter's birthday. Nak princess cake katanya. Tahun lepas dapat 3-tier crown cake. Pink jugak. Bertuah anak Ida ni ye.

Inside was a vanilla cake layered with strawberries. Outside was vanilla buttercream, topped with Disney princess themed edible image and sugar ladybirds.

Thank you Ida for entrusting us for few times now. Hope tak serik nak order dengan kami lagi ye.

Red Velvet Cupcakes

The latest craze. The red velvet cupcakes. It seems like everybody is now so into this type of cupcakes. It is actually a chocolate cake with a little bit of apple vinegar (which gives the sour-y flavor) and red coloring (hence, the bright color). This was our best-selling cupcakes too, during the KLCC bazaar the other day.

This was ordered by a colleague, Tina who wanted to give it a taste to our very own red velvet cupcakes with orange buttercream topping. Alhamdulillah, when asked for her testimonial, "Sedap. My husband pun suka". Except according to Tina, she still prefers the red velvet with cream cheese topping jugak. So, next project IS that, I guess. Insyallah.

Coincidently, weekend tu ada makan-makan buka puasa with SIL. So I baked extra to bring to her house as well. This one, I topped them all with red velvet crumbles. Senang, sekata jek semua.

Buat makan as a dessert, lepas habis makan main dishes yang banyak tak terkata. Alhamdulillah. Memang laku habis. By the time we left, rasa-nya red velvet pun dah selamat habis. Happy jek kalau apa yang kita masak/baked semua licin habis kan. Below is another close-up.

KLCC Charity Bazaar 2011

Am glad it's all over. Terbayar penat lelah tengok hasil jualan seharian. The event was supposed to start as early as 8am. But we were only there around 9:30am. Siap unload and set everything up by 10am. And made my first sale at 10:30am. Alhamdulillah.

When the crowd started to came in, I was still busy putting up labels. That was me with the Ikea magic color and picture frames. Bila customer nak beli, baru-lah kelam kabut cari small change and a bekas to put the money in.

The crowd was slow in the morning. Especially because it was office hours when we first set up the booth. So, sempat jugak lah tuan tanah bergambar kenangan dengan my first booth.

Lunchtime was peak. It gets really busy at 12-3pm. Shared my booth with 4 others - MommyLyna, Adrini's, Watie and Nik. Had great time knowing them and their staff too. MommyLyna came during lunchtime, selling Shaklee products. Adrini's were busy juggling her nursing kurung booth in KLCC and Midvalley at the same time. Watie's educational toys were hit that day. And Nik, walaupun tak berjumpa mata, sempat hantar 2 orang staff to mend her booth full with kuih raya.

The sale was so great that by 2nd half of the day, I hardly have anything to sell. Samples pun dah habis dimakan orang. Namecard too, that I have to give out my party stuff's namecard instead.

Red velvet cupcakes were selling like hot cakes!! Should have done more since they are hit these days. Ramai betul orang booking and decided to walk around dulu and came back, only to find their red velvets are all gone. Strawberry cupcakes came second. And I also brought oreo cupcakes yang sungguh yummy. I arranged them all pretty in a 3 tier cupcakes tray. Sampaikan, many can't believe that they are edible sebab strawberry cupcakes looked so creamy.

Brownies were selling fast too. First sale was made at 10:30am. Lepas-lepas tu laju jek jalan. And not to forget the famous cranberry oat and chocolate chip cookies!! Sampaikan hari ni pun, ada yang masih email/call asking about the cookies. Insyallah, we'll be making 1 trip to Petronas again, sometime in 3rd/4th week to deliver the cookies ordered. Thank you guys for the great support!

All in all, the bazaar was great. Glad that I decided to join in, although a bit last minute. Thanks to MommyLyna who alerted me about the bazaar. Ada rezeki, Insyallah kami join lagi tahun-tahun depan yek.

Black & White Hantaran Cupcakes

These cupcakes were ordered by Jaja for his brother's engagement do. Which I forgot to ask when.

They were actually for hantaran. So Jaja opted for the premium package. Whereby cupcakes are nicely wrapped in silver box and tied with a black and white ribbon to match the engagement theme.

This was our very first cupcakes order lepas bercuti lama from pregnancy/confinement dulu tu. So, boleh tahan bengkok juga la my hand masa mendeco tu.

Jaja gave me 3 designs for inspirations. Which I have mix and matched them to create a better look/combination. And since the theme color is already dark, we decorated the cupcakes with very simple patterns to avoid them looking serabut/heavy. Inside were vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with buttercream topping with silver dragees skit2x.

And as usual, bila dah bake for customers, I would normally bake extra for the family as well. Zara was so happy when she saw a tray of cupcakes on the table. Siap comment, "Mommy, your cupcakes taste good!!". Tak lama lepas tu I asked here, "Which one is your favorite?". She replied, "I like chocolates and vanilla". What an acknowledgement, I must say. Orang kata, kids don't lie kan?

Hope Jaja and the bakal pengantin love them as much as Zara does too!!!

Good thing is, orders have started to pour in lately. Alhamdulillah. Thanks to the continous support, you guys!

However, advance notice of 1 week prior to pick up date is highly recommended. Currently, we are also in the midst of sorting out for better delivery service for our beloved customers.

Cartoon Artwork Class with Yatt

I attended this class a long time ago. About 2 months before delivering Ziya. Kira masa pergi class tu perut dah memboyot lah. That explains the simplicity of the cartoon design that I chose that day. Simple habis. Ada Pooh seketul jek. Kira senang nak lukis, cepat siap so takyah berdiri lelama. Honeypot tu pun aku tambah freehand sendiri. Cos dah terlampau kosong sangat.

If you have been following this blog long enough, you'll noticed my sifu there in blue. The class was conducted at her place in Sungai Buloh. But we were actually taught by Yatt; the one wearing white tudung in this picture below.

That was my Pooh with its honeypot dah siap trace on wax paper using melted chocolate. Habis gigil. Clearly, I need practice.

And that was Yatt trying to demo on how to transfer our cartoon artwork on the cake.

My Pooh was safely transfered on the cake yang dah siap dilepa dengan buttercream at the beginning of the class. Together with the honeypot.

After transferring the image, we painted the cartoon with piping jelly. Which is made from sugar. Love the orange gila. Sebijik macam Pooh kan? But my cake obviously need more. It looks so empty.

So I came up with this walk-in-the-park theme for the background. Tambah butterfly atas hidung Pooh lagi. Now dah nampak penuh sikit kan. See the 2 tones sun?? Aku buat sendiri tu...

All in all, I had fun attending the class. Learning a new set of skills in baking. So, senang lah nanti kalau ada customer order kan. Takde la panic tak tentu pasal.

This design is particularly suitable for those who does not want to use fondant figurine on their cake. Sebab fondant figurine bila dah keras, takde pulak yang nak makan kan. So, your money go wasted di situ. And if you are the type who does not like excessive buttercream on your cake, this would be a perfect choice for you too.

Udang Masak Black Pepper

This was cooked as a lauk on the side dengan nasi goreng aku hari tu. Boleh tahan sedap jugak lah.

We're so used to ayam/daging masak black pepper. Tapi udang?? Am a bit sceptical at first. Tapi sebabkan deme published kat dalam Majalah Rasa, aku pk sure dah tried and tested kan. Hopefully sedap lah.

And true enough, memang sedap. Tak sedap kalu, kesian lah udang-udang besar yang mak aku kasi ni. Harus aku basuh jugak nanti. Tapi sebab sedap, selamat lah them udang kami anak beranak dah makan.

So, here's the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

Minced bawang merah+putih+halia
Udang
Sos tiram
Kicap
Cili merah+hijau - hiris nipis
Bawang besar - hiris nipis

METHOD:

Tumis minced bawang merah+putih+halia
Masukkan udang. Masak till separa masak
Masukkan sos tiram+kicap sikit
Masukkan cili merah+hijau and bawang besar. Siap untuk hidang.

Highly recommended. Hubby puji sajek. Macam makanan restoren pun yer. Aceh...

Nasi Goreng

Biasa orang makan nasi goreng for breakfast kan. Tapi punya-lah sedap nasi goreng ni, aku masak jugak for dinner. Tak kira. In fact, this is actually my 3rd time guna recipe yang sama.

The first time tu, aku masak guna left over nasi ayam yang kami beli the day before tu. Serious sedap. Second time pulak, I used lebihan nasi putih yang makan the day before-nya tu, masa kat rumah my mom. And third time ni, aku amik teladan from the first time masak hari tu, I cooked the white rice guna air rebusan ayam sesiap. Rasa sedap, bau pun wangi jek.

Anyway, walaupun nasi goreng ni diadaptasi dari recipe yang aku tengok di Majalah Rasa bulan July 2011, tapi bila masak, takde lah aku tiru bulat-bulat recipe-nya. Sebab dia nak masak dengan ayam kunyit. Aku nak buat nasi goreng kosong jek sebab nak masak lauk lain on the side. So aku main cecampak jek. And macam biasa, recipe aku takde sukatan sebab kata-nya main cecampak jek kan.

INGREDIENTS:

Nasi
Minced bawang merah+putih+halia
Telur
Carrot - hiris nipis
Kubis - shredded
Cili merah+hijau - hiris nipis
Sos ikan
Bawang goreng

METHOD:

Masak nasi guna air rebusan ayam. Guna lebihan sup sayur pun ok. Will try this next time.
Tumis minced bawang merah+putih+halia. I normally have these ready in fridge at all times. So bila nak masak senang. Save time pun yek.
Masukkan telur ala scrambled eggs.
Agak-agak telur dah separuh masak, masukkan carrot+shredded kubis+cili merah&hijau
Masukkan nasi yang dah masak tadi. Kacau sebati.
Perasakan dengan sos ikan. Kacau lagi sampai semua sekata.
Nak hidang, taburkan bawang goreng kat atas.

Nasi goreng ni aku hidangkan dengan keropok ikan keping untuk penambah selera and udang masak black pepper as lauk. Nak goreng telur mata pun masyuk jugak. Ikut tekak memasing lah.

Like I said before, recipe ni untuk buat nasi goreng kosong jek. So, kalau ada yang nak buat nasi goreng sotong, boleh masukkan sotong lepas tumis, and before telur kot. Nanti boleh try in future.

Nasi Goreng and Udang Masak Black Pepper

This is what I cooked for dinner tonight. Nasi goreng and udang masak black pepper. Recipes adapted from the latest Majalah Rasa.

Dalam tupperware Nescafe kuning tu is keropok ikan untuk dijadikan 'sudu' masa makan nasi goreng tu nanti. Siapa biasa buat camtu? Best kan.

Siapa yang tak beli lagi Majalah Rasa bulan July 2011, sila lah beli. Ada macam-macam recipes yang best for berbuka and sahur jugak. Agak-agak mamai, takde idea nak masak apa tu nanti. Belek jek la magazine ni.

Ayam Panggang Madu

Weekend lepas, kami adik beradik had a BBQ and steamboat party for lunch. Lepas aku kicau-kan @twitter sebab sedap sangat, langsung Wafaa minta resepi marinate ayam tu. Hence, this special entry khas buat Wafaa yang aku jumpa first time kat birthday party Daniel hari tu.

INGREDIENTS:

Ayam - Hari tu aku guna chicken wings jek. Nak guna parts lain pun takde hal. Tapi lebih masyuk kalau guna drumstick and wings lah.
Black pepper
Minced garlic & ginger
Chili sauce
Oyster sauce
Madu
Garam

METHOD:

Marinate ayam dengan semua bahan di atas. Gaul-gaul. Pastu bakar. Bakar atas api utk BBQ pun best. Bakar atas api dapur pun ok. Bakar dalam oven pun jadi. Ikut suka hati hangpa.

My only tip, kalau taknak ayam cepat hangit, jangan letak honey dulu. Honey tu boleh sapu sikit-sikit masa tengah bakar. Macam yang aku buat dalam gambar atas tu.

A Corporate Proposal

We had a shock of our life recently. When we received a call from somebody 'unknown'. Asking if we would like to send our cupcakes to a major airline company for consideration.

Sakit jiwa tak?? Kami pun, boleh tahan menggelupur lah jugak. Cos we've never been approached for such a huge order. Once, we were asked if we are interested to supply our mini cheese tarts to a bakery in Pavilion. But the stupid me, ignored the request. As I was busy with my full time commitment at the time. Bongok kan??

Anyway, back to THE call. Call was received on Wednesday/Thursday. By Saturday, orang tu dah nak amik for presentation to the airline. Mana la tak menggelupurkan. Dengan takde idea-nya. Dengan takde barang-nya. Dengan terkejut-nya. There were A LOT of things going on our minds at the time. Thanks to kawan-kawan, who were involved with the whole brainstorming process masa tu. You know who you are.

The requirement was quite simple. They wanted something simple, unique and yummy. A quick chat with a colleague, katanya Emirates Airline pun ada serve cupcakes. But it was just a plain cupcake, no deco/topping whatsoever. In fact, it was actually a cross-over between cupcakes and muffin. Hence, the idea to come up with plain vanilla and chocolate cupcakes.

From there, we varied the cupcakes a little by mixing in chocolate chips inside the batter and also on the top. Looking yummy?

Satu-satu kami decorate carefully. Trying to keep the theme as simple as possible. While keeping in mind, they are for a major airline. So, we kept the colors limited to blue, red and yellow only. Most revolves around the 'sky blue' theme. Katanya for an airline kan.

But of course, tak lengkap lah set ni kalau takde special option for chocolate lovers. So, we made the following to accompany the other fancy ones.

And not forgetting those who may prefer simple vanilla cupcakes, as well. These are specially made for them.

Simple simple jek semua. To fit in everybody's taste. Which is quite hard actually. If you really think about how many people actually board a plane in a given day.

We didn't make the cut, I guess. As we didn't receive a return call after that day. But we had fun preparing and learning from various people on how to handle this kind of request. If there may be one, in the future. Insyallah.

Cupcakes for the Biker at Heart

Lama aku tak update. Hari ni, semangat datang tetiba. Orders pun dah bertimbun. Think I should make it a habit from now on that Isnin adalah hari mengupdate Izzy Bakery. Baru lah efficient skit. Kot.

Anyway, these are our latest cupcakes creation. Latest as in baru jek deliver pagi tadi. Heh, semangat mak nak update ni, dek non. They were ordered by a uni-mate of ours, ND for her friend's 26th birthday.

Since our first creation dulu tu, nampak-nya macam ramai juga yang minat dengan design ni. Lately ni macam banyak jek cupcakes yang kami buat ala gini. Maybe cos it combines all the favorite things of the order recipient in a box kot. What a perfect gift, eh? Jimat pun jimat. Compared to if you were to buy the 'real' motorcycle kan. Macam cupcakes kami ni.

And these were the cupcakes before deco. Gebu kan? They are chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with choc chips, yang sangat yummy. I know cos I tasted them myself!

And there's also all these too. They are topped with vanilla buttercream recipe courtesy of my new Zoe Clark book, plus gumpaste figurine of all his favorite things.

Our Dinner

If u have been following our personal blog, you would know by now that we have gotten ourselves a live-in helper at home. She has been very helpful ever since, that I managed to fix dinner for the family for almost every night. Tercapai satu new year resolutions aku. That is, to cook more for the family. Instead of spending money outside on crappy food.

In fact, I think I kinda have a 'system' now. For dinner that is. Like, upon reaching home, I will go into kitchen to tell my maid to cook rice. At the same time, asking her what kind of 'meat' that she defrosted that day. This way, I passed 1 stress to her. That is, to think whether to cook chicken/beef/fish etc. Heh.

Once I find out what's the meat, I will go online searching for recipes. My favorite site has to be this one:

Once I find the recipe, I will then asked my maid to take out and wash whatever is necessary. Once that is done, I will continue on cutting and cooking our meal for that night. Once all done and cooked, I will let the maid to serve the food while we went for prayer. Lepas solat, baru makan. This way, sempat la sejuk sikit food tu. Tak la melecur lidah makan.

On and off, I will tell the maid to clean up the fridge. Basically, to wipe the whole fridge and throw away food yang dah basi etc. Since she can write, I also told her to come up with a grocery list after she went through the things in our cupboards/pantry/fridge. Then, we pick a day to go to the wet market. Which will normally be over the weekend. Buy whatever is needed and head home. The trip normally take less than an hour. Unlike before, when we have no list, no maid and totally no idea what to cook either. This way, we not only save time but also money. Takde la beli benda merapu raban kan.

Once back, I will let the maid to clean the meat and keep them away in a meal's proportion. Senang later, when we want to defrost and cook them for future dinners.

So far, the system is working well for us. Like I said, I have been cooking almost every night. Zara enjoys her food more now. I guess she too, get tired of outside food. En. Suami apa lagi. He's been my biggest fan, I'd say. Or, I may be delusioning??

Lemon Rosemary Thyme Chicken with Boiled Vegetables

At times, we just get bored of the normal rice and lauk dishes. So when this happened, I normally opt for something simple yet fulfilling. The classic favorite of everybody had to be the chicken. Hence, it is always most easiest to just marinate them in whichever way that you like and coupled them with some boiled vegetables on the side.

Like this particular night, when we had Lemon Rosemary Thyme Roasted Chicken with Boiled Brocolli and Cherry Tomatoes.

Recipe was simply to marinate the chicken with salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme with some lemon juice. Grilled them and walla, you're done. Seriously. It is as easy as that. You can use whatever herbs that you like for that matter. That night, we ate the chicken with Nando's hot peri-peri sauce. The thousand island was for the vegetables on the side.

And if you are a beginner, just try to marinate them with BBQ sauce the first time. You can hardly go wrong with that. Try 'em!

Towel Cakes

Thank you to Azza who hosted this Gaya Si Comel Berbaju Raya contest. I have been longing to do this 'cake' but asyik tertangguh jek. So, when I find out about the contest from Azza, I quickly asked her whether we can participate as a sponsor. To which she replied, "Yes!!".

And since am also an Avon dealer, I thought why not I use Avon stuff in my 'cakes' as well. I mean, what's not to love, right? After all, we are a user anyway. And since this kind of contest is normally participated by the mommies, I straight away knew that I should use mommies-friendly colors like pastels. Be it green, pink or purple. They just had to be pastels.

Hence, the final products you see here:

This was a special request made by Maz for her husband who loves everything soccer, photography/camera and Ipad related stuff. These cuppies were specially delivered to their house as a surprise to celebrate his birthday sometime mid-December 2010.

As obvious from the theme of the cupcakes, Maz's husband is a photographer himself. In fact, he is the go-to person for any photography related questions that I have. Like what I wrote here.

This was actually my second time doing assorted theme cupcakes like this one. The first time can be viewed here. In fact, we will have another upcoming order of this sort. And I have to say that they are very fun to make. Despite the time consumed.

I made soccer shoes and ball on one cupcakes and jersey on another. For the photography, I did a DSLR camera and a camera stand. While the rest were Ipad main icons, apart from the birthday banner itself. Maz also requested for the cupcakes to be decorated with hearts and love everywhere. Hence, the special red heart candles.

Here's another look at the cuppies, nicely packed and ready for delivery. My learning point for this order?? Think I forgot to ask whether her husband is really is a Man-U fan. Excuse me ignorance.

These cupcakes were ordered by Losshy for her friend's birthday. Coincidentally, her friend is working at Pusat Bandar Damansara which is very near to my current workplace. Hence, making delivery is so much easier.

It was a surprise present. Losshy had all things dear to her friend as inspiration. She named A LOT more. But finally settled for these few items. As you can see in the picture here.

Princess Aurora & Disney Cars Cookies

These cookies were made for Maz, a colleague of mine. She ordered 24 fancy cookies as a party favors for a combined birthday party for both her daughter and soon bebaru ni.

She requested for the cookies to be decorated in Princess Aurora and Disney Cars theme. We use edible images for the graphics. Had 4 different images of which 2 were of Princess Aurora and the other 2 of Disney Cars.

The cookies were vanilla spiced cookies. Decorated with edible images which were 'glued' to cookies with matching colors of royal icing i.e. Pink & yellow/ Red & black.

Exam is over. Am back in business. So, the first thing I did was to make sure Izzy Bakery's page is up on FB.

I've created it for sometime already. But could never get around to really update and upload any pictures of our previous creations. Guess today is FINALLY the day, we actually get around it.

This way, I can track how many cakes/cupcakes/brownies/cookies etc that we have baked so far. Ada sense of achievement di situ.

And today, I just realized that we have 25 followers to date. Not a BIG number. But seriously, when I put up the apps there, it did not even occur to me that there will be followers pun. Heh. So, this FB page should also allow us to interact with our existing and future customers on a more personal basis. Who knows, we could actually exchange comments/ideas or be friends in real life? Haha. Ambitious tu.

Mini Cheese Tarts

If you have been following us long enough, you'd know that this was actually our Raya promotion. We decided to do something different this year, than the normal biskut Raya. With that thinking, this should give us less stress than making biskut Raya. Duh??!! It was totally the other way round. Cheese tarts are so fragile and can't be kept for long. But biskut Raya, berbulan pun takpa.

This is an image of almost all the orders together. Some dah dipick up earlier. Some were ordered for buka puasa. While some, still in the baking process.

Alhamdulillah rezeki murah juga bulan puasa hari tu. Thanks to all who ordered masa tu. Our most favorite flavor masa tu was original flavor. Followed by blueberry and oreo cheesetarts.

Jenuh jugak la kami nak siapkan all orders. Sampaikan pagi before nak pergi office, masih lagi berbaking. But all went well, insyallah ada rezeki, boleh buat promo lagi yek!

A Pink Fondant Hantaran Cake

This sweet pink round shaped themed cake was ordered by Azza and her sister, who are regulars here at Izzy B. It was for a hantaran made for another sister, if am not mistaken.

They had requested for me to replicate a design that they saw in one of the many books in my collection with some twist. I did minor changes to the cake and use different type of flower altogether. Bottom is finished with a fabric pink ribbon. The cake surrounded with white dots/pearls.

Overall, we were very honored to the cake. As always. Very happy with how it turned out. It was so sweet. Sangat lah sesuai for a hantaran.

Thank you to Azza and sister for ordering. Sorry for the late posting. This is one of those few cakes that we made during puasa jugak rasanya. Ke slightly before that. Dah lama sangat, the details pun dah lupa. Heh.

Gourmet Sandwich

Pernah tak rasa macam sometimes, u just get tired of nasi and wanted something light and different for dinner?

Aku and hubby kekadang macam tu lah. Especially kalau dah lapar sangat and wanted a quick fix. But dinner out macam malas pulak nak bersiap berjalan. So, we opted for this:

A Gourmet Sandwich

Side-ways dah nampak ke-delicious-an dia kan. Roti are Gardenia wholegrain bread. Inside are layers of salad/lettuce leaf, then slices of tomatoes and your choices of meat. Gambar atas ni showing smoked salmon as meat, which I bought at Cold Storage kot.

Then on top of the salmon, I also put slices of bombay onion. I like 'em crunchy so I use them raw. Lepas tu cheese slices for a little bit of saltiness. As finishing touches, squeeze some lemon juice, chili sauce, barbeque sauce, mayo and lastly, of course the black pepper.

As you can see in the picture above, the meat can be anything up to your imagination. But my favorites have to be either the smoked salmon or meatloaf slices. Only meatloaf slices need to be cooked before hand. Which Ms. Kecik loves to ratah. Smoked salmon is 'smoked' as the name suggests. But if you don't like 'em so raw/bare, squeeze some lemon juice before putting it on a sandwich.

"30" Birthday Cake

This was a cake ordered by Azza and sister for another sister who is celebrating her 30th birthday during the previous fasting month. I know, I know, I announced her that we won't be taking any cake orders during puasa month. But this was one of those few orders that we already promised to do much much earlier on.

Azza and sister are my regulars. They have been ordering from us for countless times! So, they are quite comfortable around the house. For this particular oder, they personally came to our house to go through the many baking books that I have to choose the cake design that they like. And finally ended up with this one.

A rather simple design, I'd say. But it represented what it should be. Which is, the 30TH BIRTHDAY!!

It was a chocolate cake inside. Topped with white buttercream. Decorated with gold dots and the number 30 around the cake. And finally touched with a blue ribbon. Simple kan?

And we also gave out 3 gold candles to go with the cake. Hopefully the birthday girls loved them all...

Walnut Brownies

These were the walnut brownies that we made during the previous fasting month. They were ordered by Sue who has been ordering from us for countless times, on behalf of her friend. I believe these were order as part of the Hari Raya spread.

Umar's 3rd Birthday Cake

Sorry people. I realized that I have been way behind in updating the blog lately. First, it was fasting month. Then, comes Raya. Later the open houses. Then, comes the pregnancy. And the latest, is our very own PARTY BIZ!!

Anyhow, I managed to steal sometime lately. Will try to update them all slowly. While catching with the latest development here, in Izzy Bakery's Kitchen.

So, it was my colleague's son birthday. He was born a month after Ms. Kecik, which was 3rd September. And if you are a mother like me, you would probably watched too much PHDC by now alreayd, to know that kids nowadays, no longer layan Thomas the Train. Chuggington is the new craze.

Here are some pictures from his party. Where only close family members were invited. And us sibuk.

You should look at his reaction when he first saw the cake. He was so happy that he squels, "Ooh, Chuggington! My favorite!"

The Birthday Song. Excuse the high pitched voice behind. That was of course, no other than my beloved daughter.

A closer look of the cake

It was actually a 6 inch round chocolate cake. Covered with chocolate ganache. Topped with chuggington edible image. The sides of the cake were also decorated with chuggington edible images, which the kids had fun eating them. Though sebenarnya, macam takde rasa jek. The banner carries the Chuggington blue and yellow logo with "Happy Birthday Umar!!" greetings.

Hope the cake was all worth it. Thank you Eda for ordering with us....

3-tier Wedding Cake Class with Azie

Saturday was filled with a baking class at no other than my sifu's place. Hubby was kind enough to drive me all the way to Sg. Buloh. So here's a snapshot of Ms. Kecik posing di tempat kejadian.

She has now shifted to a baking studio, which is much more spacious and convenient. This time, the class was not taught by her directly. Instead, she imported another sifu, all the way from Johor.

The class started with us learning how to cover the sponge cake with buttercream and ensure smooth surface. Siap ajar how to clean off the unwanted crumbs and divide the cake into 3 layers; where each layer were filled with buttercream "kotor". She also gave us recipes for easy sponge cake and buttercream that were being used for the class.

Then, Azie showed us how to decorate the cake. Demonstrating few different possible techniques and patterns using the same buttercream. Lepas dah tengok macam-macam patterns and tools, we had a short break for lunch and solat Zohor.

Lepas makan Laksa Johor yang sangat yummy, we continued with decorating all the 3 cakes using colors like white, purple, green etc. Then, came the highlight of the class which is my biggest fear (no more!) in cake decorating. Iaitu making a rose from buttercream. After few practice, think I have come up with decent roses, finally.

Lastly, once we all done with decorating, Azie taught us on how to stack the cakes. I decided to put them all on tiers instead of stacking, like most others did.

Class finishes with us camwhoring with our own cakes, classmates and cikgu.

1st Birthday Cake for Iris

Made this for Iris, who just turned one recently. She is the daughter of En. Suami's x-colleague, who is not a stranger to our Izzy B. products. But the power of technology got me to liaise directly with the mother, instead. Biasa lah, benda macam ni is a mom's forte kan. So each time ada birthday party order, aku pun excited sama.

Zarina, the mother requested for chocolate and vanilla flavored cake. Outside was decorated with princess themed edible image in pink/blue and yellow color theme. The whole look was then being touched up with fondant butterflies and royal icing decorations like flowers and ladybirds.

Making a birthday cake especially the FIRST one is always fun. We were honored to be given that opportunity. Thank you Zarina & hubby for ordering. Hope ada lagi orders in future yeah.

An Early Birthday Present

A very very long time ago, I have bought an early birthday present for myself. Which is why, I was not bothered about buying another birthday present for myself last September.

Updates di Bulan Ramadhan

We're so touched. Many people were asking why we're not taking orders during this Ramadhan. Many others insisted for orders anyway. Some, we can't just reject so we had to accept them anyway. Some were very understanding, once we explained.

Truthfully, tangan ni pun dah gatal nak berbaking. But decision has been made. And we should stick to it. Buat decision pun, setelah ditimbang baik buruk of the current situations. Situations lah sangat...

But most of you who have been following us, would know that we are a part time baker; we go to office during the day and bake at night, after our beloved daughter go to sleep. So a break in Ramadhan would allow us to reorganize our life, in a way. Deciding on who supposed to be in charge of what, our daughter's schedule/daily activities and so on. Tak masuk lagi bab yang takde helper. My friends squeal when finding out that my husband bakes too!

And don't get me started with the many long overdue posts. Which we have FINALLY succeeded in updating them all as of last night. The dates are jumbled up, but hey, at least they are there! Untuk kenangan...and portfolio for customers to look at.

Plus, we need to restructure the business a bit. Looking for a new bigger oven, maybe a chiller as well as updating our 'accounting' records. Or introduce new products, perhaps?? We are also looking into converting our store as a storage area. So we need time to scout around for best affordable options. That itself requires a day trip to IKEA.

On personal wise, I am in dire need for a new handbag. Been thinking about it for so long now. But hardly made effort to go scout. Only weekend baru ni, we got a chance to survey around. Which I finally found THE one. Ini jek took up the whole 2-day weekend. Tak masuk lagi nak survey barang2 lain yang nak dibeli.

But most importantly, this is actually my 1st year going to terawih after Ms. Kecik was born. Bukan tak pernah pegi sebelum ni, tapi inconsistent. This year, I tried to go as often as I can. With her in tow. So far so good. Tu tak masuk lagi plans for berbuka puasa dengan family & kawan2x. Masa bila pulak la nak bake kan?!!

A Purple Hantaran Cake

Ordered by Faziha, who was introduced to me by her sister, who is also my tailor. She ordered the cake to give as a present, for hantaran.

Inside was chocolate moist cake, which is our best selling flavor so far. Topped with white fondant and deco with many tones of royal icing flowers. The theme color was purple but the camera obviously, did not do justice to the real, final product.

The cake board was also covered with white fondant. And embossed with flowers that makes up like a border, with a hint of purple silver edible dust.

Muni's Ibu Sewing Cupcakes

Muni, a colleague of mine ordered these cupcakes for her mom's birthday. She wanted to surprise her with the things that she loves - sewing. So, we made her these cupcakes...

Some of the cupcakes have cute toppers that has to do with her mom's interest: sewing machine that also look like a mixer; I think, buttons, cloth and bobbins. The rest are decorated with simple swirl to balance the heavy deco.

Wouldn't it make a great gift for a special one? You tell me...

12 Cupcakes Flowers & Butterfly

These flowers&butterfly theme cupcakes were made for hubby's colleague. Not for him personally, but to be given away as a wedding gift. We personally choose the color and design to suit the occasion. He mentioned about having flowers, though. So here it is:

The inspiration for the flower cupcakes is Mini Stripey Rose Cake by Peggy Porschen from her 'Beautiful Cakes" book, like what you see in the picture below. Only that, hers are fondant mini cakes, decorated with royal icing & gumpaste flowers. Mine are all buttercream.

The remaining cupcakes were decorated in garden theme. To suit the flower cupcakes. Garden theme, harus-lah ada green grass and butterflies.

Brown Fondant Hantaran Cupcakes

Brown hues fondant with gold&creme accents decorate this 16 hantaran cupcakes. This was ordered by Ida, who was inspired by the Turqoise cupcakes 2 by Che'Pah Cute Cakes. She asked us to recreate similar design and we have personally asked for Che'Pah's permission to use this design. Glad that we did.

The entire set was chocolate moist cupcakes with vanilla buttercream. Covered with fondant top and gumpaste flowers. They are wrapped in the premium box and tied with a decorative ribbon.

Beach Party Cupcakes - Aloha!

Novelty cupcakes ordered by Sue, who was introduced to me by her sister, CikTin. Sue has been my regular customer with brownies being on TOP of her FAVORITE list. Sue has also been introducing her friends as well. For that, THANK YOU SUE!!

Sue was going off for a holiday with her girlfriends at the time. So, she ordered cupcakes of 3 different themes; beach/pool party, pyjama party and also birthdays. Hence, the combination above.

My favorite had to be the beach themed cupcakes. The sand looks so real, made from brown sugar. The slippers were made from gumpaste, with a mould that I just bought from this craft store @ OU.

Toy Story 3 Birthday Cake

We had an order from a very old friend, from secondary school named Syeeda. The cake was for her son's 1st birthday. Like any mother, haruslah celebrate besar-besaran kan.

Initially, Syeeda could not decide on the theme. She was contemplating between Toy Story and Thomas Train. So, we told her to look around and see whether her son is more towards one side than the other, by looking at his toys/clothes. Which ultimately, is the parents' choice la kan. So, she decided on Thomas Train.

Not till later, she changed her mind to Toy Story. Haha, been there done that yeah. Buat party harus lah coordinate everything together kan. Turned out, she only managed to secure Toy Story party packs. While Thomas Train was no where to be found. So, Toy Story it is!

Inside is choc moist cake, filled and topped with choc ganache. Atas siap ada edible image lagi and finally, touched by bits of white chocolate around the cake. This order was made on the same day as the Upin&Ipin cake, hence the mini bunting AGAIN!! We are SO IN LOVE with this bunting idea!! Sides were decorated with more edible image of Toy Story 3's logo and chocolate sticks.

Upin & Ipin Birthday Cake

This cake was order by Sitie for her daughter's 1st birthday. Tapi kakak-nya tumpang sekali. Hence, the 2 names on the cake.

Inside was moist chocolate cake, filled with chocolate ganache and topped with ganache jugak. Imagine betapa chocolaty-nya cake ni?? We had a bite and I tell u!! Sedap hingga menjilat jari!! But then am may be biased, cos am a chocolate fan.

And we went all out for the deco as well, as you can see. Siap mini bunting segala. Just to give an added touch to the cake. Lain dari yg lain, different from the normal icing/fondant cuts writing. The cake was surrounded with 'love letters' sticks everywhere. As we were told that the guests were mostly kids. Gotta do something that they love, aye? Then, nak penuhkan space kiri kanan, we throw in butterflies and tiny flowers for 'seri'.

Sitie came all the way from Sg Besi, to pick up the cake. Hope the cake worth the trip yeah, Sitie. Tq very much for ordering. Tahun depan, depan dan depan lagi, boleh order lagi....

Carrot Walnut Cake

This Carrot Walnut cake was ordered by the oh-so famous MommyLyna for her kids' teachers. It was an appreciation gift, complete with ucapan terima kasih on the cake.

Topped with cream cheese frosting, the cake is so moist and surprise, surprise, it didn't taste bad at all!! Think lepas ni ok kot nak bake the same for Ms. Kecik's birthday. The cream cheese frosting toned down the sweetness in the icings. Making it less sugary and more carrot-y.

MommyLyna requested for a simple deco. So, we decided to decorate the whole cake with walnuts instead. To give the cake, a bit of crunchy taste. Yum, yum.

Since her kids go to the same school as Ms. Kecik, we dropped the cake straight at school. So, MommyLyna pun tak sempat nak tengok rupa cake ni.

So, here it is...hope you are happy yeah. I know the teachers did! Semua dah tanya2x for future order.

A Peach Wedding Cake

It was my cousin's wedding. My mom wanted to sponsor their wedding cake as a gift to the bride&groom. So, she asked me to bake a 3 tier wedding cake, in peach. The rest is up to our imagination.

My mom loves flowers. Hence, it is almost natural to have flowers on the cake. Though the cake was not for her kan. It was actually for the cake cutting ceremony. Imagine our nervousness when we presented the cake.

The peach colour is so sweet. Our humble camera did not do them justice. Inside is chocolate cake, topped with buttercream icing and deco-ed with white roses and butterflies.

The cake was big and heavy. Boleh tahan berpeluh la jugak trying to smoothen the whole surface and carry them to the wedding place. Had so much fun doing it. It was such a good experience. Banyak benda nak kena study lagi ni.

World Cup 2010 Brownies

It was the World Cup season. Everybody was only thinking about BOLA!

This was ordered by a colleague of mine for a birthday party celebration for 6 birthday 'babies'. Which is why we had 6 players, 6 names and 6 flags on the brownies...Each represents the birthday boy, and his favorite team.

Noticed the scoreboard?? That was the sole idea of my customer yeah. She knows exactly what she wants. Which makes things SO MUCH EASIER!

We also had 3 other orders for brownies. This is how it looks inside.

All are ready to be delivered to the customer.

The Weekend Activity

This was what we did last weekend. The first weekend at home, after a 4-day training in Lumut. A bonding time between me and Ms. Kecik, while En. Abah was having his own 'me' time.

It was actually a recipe for gingerbread man cookies which Ms. Kecik saw from one of my many kid's baking book. But we altered 'em a bit since I don't already have the gingerbread man cookie cutter. This was from IKEA instead. I also put the adunan in freezer for a little bit so they are less sticky while am pressing the cutters in.

The recipe called for cinnamon powder but I don't have them in stock. Luckily I have rempah kek lapis in hand, so use them instead. This was the cookies before going into the oven, in a variety of shapes suka-hati-mak-nenek jek.

They are so easy, it did not even take half an hour to bake. If I was not mistaken, they just need to be baked for like 1o minutes, perhaps? Or less. Tu pun ada iras-iras nak hangus dah.

Verdict? No frills baking and sedap. Especially for tea time. We had to bake 3 rounds as my tiny oven can't fit 'em all in one go. Ms. Kecik could not wait for the 2nd round to finish baking, the 1st batch dah abis.

Guess that tell 'em all, eh? Think we'll be baking 'em as sugar cookies for Ms. Kecik's party pack as well.

Macam menarik jek...We'll see.

Baby Pink Cupcakes for Aqiqah

These was specially made for Baby Nashmia. Who was born on 14th March 2010, to a loving couple; Dya & Wawan. The cupcakes were made to be given away as doorgifts. And as the name suggested, everything HAS TO BE in PINK!!

They were 100 cupcakes altogether. Vanilla flavoured, topped with fondant & gumpaste made into baby's feet, pacifier, baby booties and also teddy bear.

Had so much fun doing them. Even Ms. Kecik was impressed with the outcome. She went gugu-gaga over the cupcakes. Both me and hubby spent 7 hours to complete the whole order. We started at 3am, and finished at 10am. Lama, but very satisfying. Especially after looking at the end products.

All the 100 cupcakes were packed in a single white box which we did not manage to deco even a little bit pun, due to time constraint. Sorry ek Dya. 1st birthday party, perhaps?

By now, both me and hubby are kind of getting into the groove of the bakery business dy. We have 3 days before I leave outstation, and 5 orders to complete. Which is a good thing, aight?

Things are definitely getting easier. And more interesting. With new things/design for us to bake/try.

Strawberry and Oreo Cupcakes

Thanks to Fida who inspired these cupcakes the first time. Her story he.re.

This time, they were ordered by hubby's colleague for a department makan-makan do. Perfect!

It was quite a last minute order tapi disebabkan senang-nya nak buat ni, we accepted anyway. She ordered 25 strawberry and another 25 oreo cupcakes. We changed the design a little bit as we were short of time. Personally, I like these version better though. Simple and Delicious!

Nicely packed and ready for delivery. Great lesson learned, when blending the biscuits to mix in buttercream topping, we should first separate the 'white' cream that keep the biscuits together. Baru lah less sweet skit.

The Korean strawberry works the best for this. Unfortunately, malam tu we couldn't find one. So, driscoll's it is. Only, there are the smallest version. Hubby was saying kat Cold Storage, the price for per pack is almost RM30. While at Jusco, less than RM20.

The strawberry cupcakes. The buttercream topping has been modified as per previous orders yang sangat2 manis itu. This one tastes just perfect except it was too runny for my liking so takut2x they can't hold shapes/design.

I tasted myself the strawberry one. And I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend 'em! But kena CSI lagi la recipe ni so tak runny sangat.

Birthday Razin

We were making the Red&White cuppies when I received a call from my beloved cousin, Kak Ani. It was her youngest son, Razin's birthday and she wanted me to whip up something for the night. Coincidently, UmiTok had invited everybody for a 'meeting'.

As it was already 4pm, we decided that we do not have time to do anything fancy. So, brownies it is. Sedap pun sedap, and surely will be hit! Without fail.

UmiTok being a grandmother, offered for another round of candles blowing session for THE ONE AND ONLY GRAND DAUGHTER, Ms. Kecik. Luckily, a guest brought a cake to the 'meeting', so ada lah kek lain yg nak jadi mangsa. Takkan nak steal limelight tiup brownies jugak kan.

Ada brownies, harus lah ada ice cream kan. Which I have told my brother earlier, to get a tub. Some like it plain...like me, some prefer 'em with ice cream. THAT, MamaYa serving for everybody. Beside her, is Ms. Kecik THE ASSISTANT. Or, more like busy serving ice cream for ownself.

Red&White Hantaran Cupcakes

These cupcakes were ordered by a colleague, for her relative. Who is getting married in a red&white themed wedding.

She wanted something different from the usual buttercream cupcakes. So I suggested for this fondant cupcakes design inspired by the Cupcakeland.net yang baru bukak kedai di Anggerik Mall, Shah Alam. Congrats ye! Nanti kita singgah bebila.

We are using our newly acquired tool here, to emboss the bride&groom's name. Cantik kan?

The flowers are tedious as they were very2x small. The recipe surely called for PATIENCE, PATIENCE AND PATIENCE LAGI.

The other design was a butterfly to complement the flower. We also dust the green fondant with golden edible dust to give some elegance to the cupcakes. Base was embroidery so the cupcakes didn't look so pale with only A BUTTERFLY on top.

An overall look of the set. Unfortunately, we are running out of 12 pcs boxes. So, had to make do with this 15 pcs box instead. Hence, the obvious rongak in the picture below.

A Simple Breakfast @ Home Sweet Home

Our morning started early last Saturday as we had to bake for Nazimah's cupcakes. Ms. Kecik was restless as both me and hubby were busy with something else other than her.

So, we decided to take a break from 'work' and entertained her instead. I whipped up very simple dishes. Chicken soup Campbell the easiest. On the side is French bread sapu with butter and sprinkled with pepper+thyme, dibakar.

Ms. Kecik has been much of a help. In the kitchen that is. Setakat angkat pinggan mangkuk from kitchen to makan table, is no big deal.

Fyi, we normally eat at her pink 'schmall' table during weekends. Especialy breakfast. This is when everybody get to enjoy food without rushing to some other places.

That's her huggin all the barang that she carried. Mangkuk tu semua dia susun for everybody.

En. Abah normally gets to sit on stool kecik cos he's the minority. Ladies are ruling in this house, so ladies get to sit atas kerusi ada sandar belakang. Oh, and her service also comes with free sprinkle of pepper into each mangkuk before pouring soup. Siap in the middle of makan, she checked out whether anyone nak tambah pepper lagi ke tak.

Tak sejuk perut aku mengandung tu?? Harap-harap berkekalan la rajin gitu...

Mini Fondant Cakes

These little cuties were ordered by Hubby's colleague who's getting married today. Which we will be attending later today.

Planning was such a bliss. The pengantin already knew what she wanted upfront. So, she provided us with magazine cut-outs with detailed explanation of what goes where and how.

There were basically 2 different designs; 1 with a bouquet of flowers on top and another ada sekuntum jek. This is the close-up of the 1st design.

The theme color was obviously baby pink. Which is SANGAT-lah sweet-nya. My colleagues went 'ooh and aah' upon looking at the pictures. Yes, they normally get 1st look of everything.

The 2nd design with only 1 pink rose to top. The pink ribbon add touches to the whole mini cake, as well as menutup cacat cela at the bottom of the cake. Heh.

Pengantin initially ordered a dozen. But after some discussion agreed to cut down to 9. So, here another look of the whole set together.

Interested? Sila lah order. These little cuties will be sold in a multiple of 3 i.e. set of 3/6/9/+ mini cakes.

Nazimah is getting hitched!!

....Almost. She's getting engaged tomorrow at her house in Ampang.

For those who didn't know, Nazimah is my best girlfriend. We knew each other from U.S. days. So, when she called me about the news, I quickly told that I have to make her cupcakes regardless. She agreed and told me what she wanted i.e. colors etc.

After few rounds of emails back and forth, we finally agreed on maroon and gold themed, designed with english rose theme in mind. We added a hint of white here and there, just ot neutralise the 2 rich colors.

She ordered 16 cupcakes for hantaran and another 25 to give out to the closest family members. They are of vanilla and chocolate flavors. The following is close-up of deco on chocolate cupcakes.

Ms. Kecik was playing with the camera and change setting. Result? This! Not bad eh. It makes the maroon pops out.

The maroon based cuppies was supposed to be more detailed but we decided to simplify as the other design already has enough flowers on it. Nanti overcrowded pulak. Oh, and the maroon based cuppies are in vanilla flavor.

This is the 16 pcs 'premium' set. Normally packed for hantaran/gifts.

While this is set of 25 pcs for makan-makan family. Noticed that they are 'slightly' different. The white based cupcakes in the below has 2 different leaves. Atas ada satu jek.

Nicely packed and tied with a pink ribbon. Ready for delivery.

I have not been baking. For as long as am not updating the blog. Almost. Ada jek orders yang tak update lagi.

So u can imagine how happy Ms. Kecik was. When one fine night, I finally told her that we would be baking. After a trip to Jusco, after she went to toilet and tukar baju tido. Tell u, she did ALL that without much hassle. Siap ikat rambut segala. Which normally is a battle under normal circumstances.

It was the day after Teacher's Day. I thought of doing something nice. Just to celebrate. Last year, cikgu taught her origami and she made shark for me. Ke whale. So, this year ingat nak return the gesture. By making brownies. Heh.

HER @ WORK

The recipe called for flour+baking soda+apa.ntah.x.igt to be mixed outside of mixer first. So, I normally measure everything first and let her pour them into the white besen. Which later, she will kacau dengan hand beater.

Tell u, she's growing up real fast. Refused to be an assistant no more. Insisting on using the mixer, pecahkan telur herself. God knows how many times she insisted. Telling us dia BIG GIRL, that she wanted to do this and that. Pening kepala otak aku. Worrying about takut dia terslip from the stool, kitchen sepah etc etc.

In the end, all went very well. The morning after, she woke me up saying, "Jom kita tengok bownies, Mommy".

Petang tu when I fetched her from school, cikgu kata am efficient. They are planning to have a celebration sometimes next week. Kali ni nak cupcakes pulak. Looks like Ms. Kecik will have another round of baking...

We're BACK!!

Hey, I can't believe the last time I posted was March!! That was like.....AGES AGO?!! No wonder so many people have been asking. And I was like...leh baru jek 'semalam' tak update. Heh. How time flies...

Truthfully, I have been slacking off. Been concentrating mostly on office work. PKMC classes. Exam. Tido. Office work lagi. TV. Office work. Surfing. And office work lagi sampai la ni. Makan.

Ada 2 prior orders which I have yet to update. Sebabnya, tak jumpa camera sekejap. But now dah jumpa balik, no excuse. And after the exam in April, I had 3 orders which bila sampai waktu-nya were cancelled/postponed to later date. Then after that, I was busy preparing for some sponsorship sambil2x volunteering for that same event.

And now dah start masuk gear balik.

This weekend jek, I have 4 orders to do. All are pending execution jek cos ideas semua dah brain-stormed and finalised as of yesterday. So, semalam I went to buy new tools for this one project, which I started last night. Happy jek dapat try design baru...for me la. Org lain dah lama pandai kot.

Next weekend, I have 1 order lagi. And the weekend after that, I have 2 VERY IMPORTANT orders. Both are for wedding/engagement. Both are very intricate and detailed.

So, am calling for extra hands.

Good thing I have a brother who studied cookery dulu. Boleh jugak minta tolong sikit banyak. Only need to be trained. Tengok lah macam mana nanti...

1st Bake Sale!! ---- Choc Oreo & Strawberry Cupcakes

Thanks to Fida who ordered the cupcakes for her friend's birthday, Atie. We decided to challenge ourselves and try a new recipe of buttercream this time around. Sedap menjilat jari, I tell u!

As we are most satisfied with the taste, we decided to make a huge batch of the toppings. To be shared to all you people, out there. Hence, our VERY FIRST bake sale.

We announced it on the day the original cupcakes were delivered to Fida. I put on the announcement in here, on Facebook and eventually sent an email to my most regular customers. In the end, we only can provide for 2 slots. And that was it.

Manchester United theme cupcakes

MUNI requested for a Manchester United themed cupcakes for her husband's birthday.

Good thing, we finally got our hands on the footbal figurine set just a few days before. When we wanted to do this design for our previous order, they were out of stock. So, this time around when we found them, we instantly bought a few to keep for future orders as well.

She also requested for the word "Happy Birthday Papa" to be on the cupcakes. We also added a few design with red jerseys and numbers on them. Hubby helped to name a few famous players. Finally, we rolled a little white fondant and turned it into a small ball.

Chocolate Indulgence

This cake was ordered by Tina for sambutan maulidur-rasul at her daughter's school. Inside is chocolate moist cake with chocolate ganache topping, yang sungguh yummey.

Tina requested for a sambutan maulidur-rasul theme. Which made me think of Upin & Ipin in songkok. Unfortunately we can't find the exact one that I pictured in my mind so we settled for this particular edible which we think symbolizes the 1 Malaysia/Muhibbah concept. Not bad eh?

We lined the cake the chocolate sticks yang sangat chocolaty and sedap. That they make me droooooollllssssss....Lastly, we finished the cake with the "Selamat Menyambut Maulidur-Rasul" greeting.

Hope the kids love it!

Chocolate Oreo and Strawberry Cupcakes

Finally, something DIFFERENT. Maybe berkat pegi menuntut ilmu dengan Sifu.

These cupcakes were ordered by Fida for her friend's birthday. It was a birthday suprise. To which, Atie, her friend mmg surprised.

Fida has made it clear about the color as Atie loves pink. Hence, the strawberry topped cupcakes. While the chocolate oreo was particularly inspired by another baker who she found online. Inside were chocolate cupcakes topped with chocolate oreo topping, and vanilla cupcakes covered with strawberry buttercream.

Blue Turquoise Hantaran Cupcakes

This order came from hubby's colleague. She initially wanted the premium set. Unfortunately, time ni the box was out of stock. But fret no more, Sabtu lepas, we went to borong 30 boxes sekaligus. Rumah aku dah jadi kedai kotak pulak now.

She provided us with a picture of her hantaran so we kinda now the shade of turquoise blue that we should work on. Plus, she mentioned about wanting something like our previous order. Pk punya pk, we finally decided on a butterfly and flower theme for the cupcakes.

So here they are. In a set of 25 cupcakes instead.

Flower-y Cupcakes

These cupcakes was made for my cousin's wedding, which was held in Terengganu.

My mom initially wanted fondant cupcakes for its exclusivity but since she confirmed the design too little too late, I could not secure the design. Cos her choice of design is too detailed that it might take a day or 2 for me to even come up with the flowers. Plus, ingredients pun macam tak cukup nak buat fondant.

So, we finally decided on buttercream instead. Sedap pun sedap, jimat pun ye. Being a minah bunga she is, my mom wanted flowers on the cupcakes. We suggested for white and turqoise blue color combination. So the blue nampak 'naik'. And here they are:

Princess Tiered Fondant Cakes: Part II

Many may not know this. But, Izzy B IS a collaboration of both me and hubs. While I bake, he managed the IT part of the biz i.e. updating the blog, formatting the pictures etc etc. Aku adalah agak lembab sedikit, in that sense. Hence, the need of this Part 2 of the Princess Tiered Fondant Cake. MY side of the story.

This particular job has started very early in the beginning of the year. I have always impressed on what mothers are willing to do for their children. Ida, this customer of mine is no exception. The birthday girl demanded for a 2-tier birthday cake. And that's exactly what she got.

I was very much excited to do the cake as this is my first time of making a tiered cake. Fondant lagi tu, mampus aku nak kerjakan semua siap dengan crown lagi. I learnt quite a lot from the Mickey cake that I made not long before. So, I kinda know that I NEED to learn more tricks and tips from the Sifu.

Since I do this biz part time, I need to plan my time well to prevent kalut-ness on the final day nanti. Which was almost the case selama ni. I spent one weekend sourcing for tools and products that can assist me with the making of this cake. Serba macam mak nenek I bought. Which am very glad, in fact.

I started by making the gumpaste deco i.e. crown, circle cut-outs, heart-shaped cut-outs, lettering and the giant ribbon. Lettering tools tu I bought so long ago, tak tahu tahun bila. Ni baru nak guna.

A day before the delivery day, I bake the cakes; bottom is chocolate cake and top is chocolate chip cake. On delivery date, I start assembling all the pieces together. Covered the 2 cakes with white fondant, glued the cut-outs, made pearl borders and attached the crown. Good thing, the delivery day was Saturday. So, I had some lee-way boleh la touch-up sana sini, spent time taking pictures etc etc. So, how it looks like:

Initially. Till it's time to deliver, I realized that the cake was supposed to have black outlines here and there. Macam orang gila, I made the royal icing which should be the fastest way instead of kena uli fondant kan. By the time nak did the lining, told myself that I should calm down and concentrate.....NOT. Hence, the final product. Teruk gila outlines suma senget benget cos aku mengigil nak rushing konon.
I should have stopped without the lining. Or should I.

Despite, Ida text-ed me telling how happy her daughter was with the birthday cake. Other guests were impressed too.

So I was on Craft Gossip and saw their post on these 30 Amazing Birthday Cakes Ideas at parenting.com. Tell u, they are all TRULY AMAZING. Most of the cakes are for kid's birthday but with some modifications, can be made for adults too.

The cakes are all very pretty, easy to make, or at least I think so judging from the picture, with a step-by-step recipe. Best of all, each cake has photo labelling all the fun parts which is not made by fondant btw, made from real edible stuff like gumballs, runts or even mint!!

Princess Tiered Fondant Cakes

Izzy B's kitchen has never been this busy. We had a lot of orders to fulfill that we don't even have time to update this blog. There are lots more to update but we'll start with this one;

We are very excited about this order, as it is the first time we are taking order for a tiered fondant cupcakes. The preparation start few days earlier, with sketches and sourcing for ingredients and tools. And in the end, the results was awesome! Just look at these pictures...

FF: Homemade Pizza

....Not! The pizza crust was actually store bought. If I were to make them myself, pukul berapa pulak nak makan kan.

Anyway, this was only made for dinner. We had a lot of grated mozarella and cheddar cheese leftovers from a makan-makan event before. Since cheese lifespan tak lama, so I was mostly planning along that way, thinking what else can I cook using the cheese. Hari2 makan nasi pun, boring jugak kan?

So, here goes:

You'll need:

Pizza crust
Pizza sauce/Prego
Mix vegetables
Minced meat
Grated mozarella and cheddar cheese

To do:

Boil mix vegetables in a pot filled with water, sprinkled with a little salt.
In a frying pan, tumis onion+garlic+ginger. Masukkan minced meat, bila dah naik bau. Bila daging dah half-cooked, masukkan prego pulak. This should be a very fast process as everything will be re-cook in the oven later anyway.
Dah siap, spread the sauce mixture on pizza crust. Be generous, baru rasa.
Sprinkle the mix vegetable, followed by cheese as much as you like.
Put them in the oven for 25 minutes.
Dah siap, sprinkles some more cheeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzz........Yummeyh!!!

Special class for X-Student by Lynn Hassan

Tak cukup dengan class hari Rabu lepas, I attended another class with Lynn Hassan. This time, the attendees are all otak gila2x. Asyik dok gelak sakan je.

The class started at 11am, abis at 4pm. It was a 'baking' class, unlike the other classes that I attended previously. We learned how to bake bistro-like cupcakes, tell u semua sedap2x belaka. Highly recommended. Sila la gi belajar. If not, sila order saja.

Masuk2x class, I was surprised to find Nad Farannie was there. She's a friend of a friend. Ordered cupcakes twice from me. I always know that she has this thing for baking, and a very2x sweet tooth too! So, bila nampak tu...happy je cos dah ada gang kan.

Bake, bake. Deco, deco. By the end of the class, I ended up with 6 new friends - Tini, Ana, Kak Pah, An and the ever so famous Cupcake B'licious. Who would have thought??

Apa2x pun, I had great time learning. And sharing stories. Now only I know, baking soda is actually soda bicarbonate. Thanks to Nad for asking that question during class!

Basic Fondant Class With Lynn Hassan

So, I attended her class last Wednesday. All the way in Saujana Utama. Took me about an hour drive. But kuatkan hati jugak, this is for my biz.

The class was supposed to end at 5pm. I tell u, nasib baik Lynn tu penyabar. Layan borak and buat roses dengan sangat slow-nya. Abis class at about 8pm. Driving back home is a big challenge. Cos jalan semua dah gelap takde lampu. Kuatkan semangat lagi, that this is for my biz. Tambah knowledge, insyallah tambah rezeki.

These cuppies were ordered by a colleague, for her family who came all the way from SP.

She's a vegan so this was specially made for her using Martha Stewart's recipe from this book:

It was so delicious that you can't even tell the difference whether they are vegan or non. At least I can't. Heh.

She doesn't like them sweet as well, so she requested for plain ones; topped with a little bit of icing sugar and cocoa powder.

Manchester United Birthday Cupcakes

Another MU themed birthday cupcake set. We did the same theme previously but of course, the overall design was different.

It was a pretty last minute order. We initially wanted to do that particular design with players and goal sets etc etc. Went all the way to wilton, only to find out that they are out of stock. Not sure why banyak benda abis stock kat wilton lately. So, plan B gini la hasilnya. Ganti dengan football candles, instead.

The birthday boy favorite number is 8. Hence, all jerseys are in number 8. 2 is more like it.

Hope the birthday boy had a great birthday!

Mickey Mouse Fondant Birthday Cake

This is a birthday cake which I made for Nasya, who is a huge fan of Mickey Mouse. Mai has a very clear idea of what she wanted when she placed the order, so senang.

It's all chocolate cake with hazelnut filling. Yummey gila tak hingat, okay! Took me and hubby a lot of hard work and many many hours to complete, but very fun to make. We started at 630pm and only finished at 4am.

We were so nervous with the final product. As the surface was not as smooth as we expected. But all the hard work and effort were paid off when I hear Mai's happy voices!

I Lo0Ove Books. And Baking. Hence, berderet2x update entries on baking books. Or more precisely, cake decorating books.

Dah lama perasan that my cikgu tu selling this one book. The cover je pun dah nampak menarik. But the pricing is a bit on the high side. More than the price for my previous books tu. Memula mmg taknak beli but it won't hurt to belek2x kan. But upon seeing the content sambil2x lepas kelas semalam* tu, terus agree nak beli.

The book is one of the 1st of its kind in Malaysia. The concept is more or less the same as my previous books tu. But of course, I could never get enough of 'em. Ada banyak pictures and clear step-by-step instructions. Although I feel, Calvin's could have been more clearer. Ada macam missing steps here and there. Maybe he has this in mind, that only those with some basic knowledge/skill would buy the book. I only knew because I attended few classes myself. Jauh lagi nak jadi pro.

So, last night was spent on reading the book. Cover to cover, till I fell asleep...ZZzzzz.

Thanks to Mai who has been so nice about the Mickey cake. Aku sebenarnya tak 100% satisfied with the final product. Hence, masa pegi Kinokuniya the other day, I was determined the find a cake decorating book for fondants. Tell u, serious rambang mata. All are feast to the eyes but expensive. Belek punya belek, I finally decided on this particular book:

Cantik kan? And that my friend, is just the cover yeah. There are lots more inside. I highly recommend for those passionates to buy this book buat inspiration. I read the book cover to cover, carefully going through each line in every pages. Was determined to get her other book as well.

Only to realize, eh aku dah ada la buku ni. Cuma tak baca aje. Heh.

Cake Idol: Peggy Porschen

She's my cake idol. I even pasted her news clipping on dinding. Just to be inspired. She's Peggy Porschen.

You'll be surprised if I tell you that I have all her books. Each costs me about RM100. Tapi aku suka. Cos her books are not only pretty to look at, but also very resourceful. She makes the instructions are so easy to follow.

Tadi I went to Tango Mango, I saw one of her books tapi in the form of notecards. Cantik jugak but ridiculous la for me to buy since I already have the book. There were also notebooks ada gambar2x cakes/cupcakes by Peggy Porschen.

Uh, cantiknya. Bila la nak jadi camni.

Menu Planning Monday: 8/2 ~ 12/2

In the midst of juggling both house and work, I was too busy to sit down and plan. So, as expected our dinner went haywire. Well, not really. The last week of January, we mostly eat out. What with the anniversary celebration and all. While this week pulak, I just cook whatever that we feel like eating. With exception on the 2nd, when we actually treated Hubby out on his birthday. Bliss~

Anyhow, here's our plan for the coming week.

Monday: Ayam Kurma + Goreng Sayur Kobis

Tuesday: Sweet Sour Prawn + Tumis Sawi

Wednesday: Ayam Halia + Taugeh Goreng

Thursday: Ikan kukus serai + Sayur Taugeh Hijau Goreng

Friday: Ayam goreng Kunyit + Telur Masak Kicap

It obviously gets easier this time around to plan for next week's menu. We started by listing down what is already in the fridge i.e. meat, leftovers and vegetables. With this, we decide on what can be cooked each day, ikut theme. So, here is what we have come up with:

Monday = White rice + Singgang daging + Cendawan goreng

Tuesday = White rice + Tomyam ayam + Kerabu sotong

Wednesday = Spaghetti Bolognese

Thursday = Nasi Lemak + Leftover sambal udang + Ikan bilis goreng + Telur rebus +Timun

Friday = White rice + Daging goreng + Sup kubis

Review MPM: 11/1 ~ 15/1

My mom came Thursday night, siap bawak meehoon goreng. Hence, western telah di-broughtforward to Friday instead. Unfortunately, hubby had a meeting that night at 830pm, I did not managed to do the mashed potato sebab tak cukup masa. Apa pun, we were very2 satisfied. Saved a lot of time by planning ahead cos all the ingredients ada, semua cukup.

FF: Vegetable Fritata

Rule of thumb when planning for dinner, I normally make sure ada 2 dishes - 1, the main dish and another should be vege-based. So, this fritata is the vege-based which I made to complement the pizza that I made for dinner recently.

The recipe was taken from Children's Cookbook by Sara Lewis. Of course, with some tweaking as I do not have all the ingredients listed ready in my kitchen.

The recipe is so simple. Senang gila nak buat especially if some preparations have been made prior to the actual masak day. In bullet points, as I recalled:

Boil potatoes and mix vegetables till half empuk.
Mix together eggs, salt and pepper.
Masukkan both potatoes and mix vege in small bowls.
Pour in the egg mixture.
Sprinkle in the cheese as finishing touches.
Bake till cooked.

Dah tak igt berapa lama and what temperature I used as, this had to depend on specific oven. So, try and error, trust own instinct, agak2 dah masak tu, keluarkan aje.

Inspired by one of my frequent reads. This is me in the process of becoming a super mommy/wife. Cooking and baking have been my passion. Those who knows know. This is another part of me, trying to be organized. Which is quite a hard thing to do.

We had an almost empty fridge by Saturday. So, I told hubby that we need to sit down and listed down the things that we should buy, the things that we really are going to use, for cooking meals. So, to help us decide, we have agreed to pick a theme for each of the day that we are planning.

Monday = Malay cooking
Tuesday = Thai cooking
Wednesday = Western
Thursday = Teppayanki
Friday = Kid's Cooking

Dah narrow down macam ni, senang sikit nak decide what we should cook for the whole week. Although we did not 100% follow the plan. Saturday and Sunday are freestyle. Untung2, maybe hubby masak. Who knows, right? So, this is what we have decided:

Monday = Leftover Laksa Penang
Tuesday = Nasi Putih * Kurma Ayam * Sayur Campur
Wednesday = Steamed Siakap * Fried Mushroom
Thursday = Sirloin Steak * Mashed potato * Steamed Brocolli and corn
Friday = Assorted for Steambot/Grill

There you go. Now, wait for the recipe yeah!

Red & White Polka Dot for a Wedding Anniversary

Alhamdulillah, bulan 12 ni rancak pulak dok berbaking-making. Practice makes perfect, aye? Lg byk order masuk, lagi banyak opportunities for me to experiment, which eventually will lead to better cupcakes deco everytime.

2-3 days back ni, I received few orders. One being for a gift to a friend. Client is going to her friend's all-in-one party - housewarming, farewell, anniversary etc etc. But the cupcakes specifically is to be made to suit the wedding anniversary. That, and the cupcakes had to be chocolate.

Godek sana sini, we are hooked with this red and white polka dots.

Since it's a gift, we figured it'd be best if we selang seli the cupcakes with toppers siap dengan greetings to celebrate the anniversary celebration. So, toppers it is.

Pastu do simple swirls on top of the cupcakes and sprinkle them with LOOOOOOVVVEEE!!!

Oh, and think we might be double up this batches for a wedding gift to a dear friend on the same delivery date. Maybe just change the theme color je kot, depending on the ribbons that we can find nanti.

Pink Orange: A Baby Shower Do

Izzy B. has an upcoming order for a baby shower celebration. Uh, and we are soooooo excited about the whole thing k!

We were told that we can go crazy over them. So, off we went to look for inspirations. And guess what we found??

The ever-so-lovely Martha, of course!!! Go drool....

Client has requested for soft pink and yellow theme color. So, the picture above resembles the color scheme that we should be working with - soft pink, yellow, red and a little bit of orange, maybe.

And of course, there should be some contrasting colors for the cupcakes to pop-out. Green is good. Maybe a little flowers here and there, perhaps?

My Little Pony Cupcakes: The Result

Remember this? We finally had the time to update our bake-shop with the actual final cupcakes.

It was based on My Little Pony. So, the ponies had to be there one way or another. Only thing, the order was for 12 cuppies and am not sure if I want to put all the characters in there. One thing for sure, there had to be toppers cos client kept mentioning about how she loves the toppers that we did for another order made by her colleagues. Plus, they are easier to make compared to if we were to try free-hand them right onto the cuppies, isnt it.

So, here are the toppers:

We received an order for a 12 pieces of cupcakes. To be delivered on coming Thursday. Customer requested for my little pony theme. Uh, Ms. Kecik sure happy tgk final product nanti cos she looooveessss horse-y.

Discuss2, gedebuk2, gedebak, she let me decide on the colors but mentioned that she wanted them to be colorful. She also loves the toppers that we made for another client. So, we know for sure that we are going to make them again specially for her. Or, more like her recipient la kan.

She also email-ed me the cake that her recipient had for her birthday last year. Which was also my little pony theme. Sorry, we can't publish the picture here as of yet. At least not until the delivery was made. Kang nanti terkantoi plak kan. We thought, it should be a surprise?

Featured Friday: French Fries

I was so excited to cook dinner on Monday after so many days of eating out, sebab bz kat ofis. What with the intro on the new weekly feature kan. So, finally decided to prepare lamb chop with mushroom gravy, served with brocolli rebus and french fries for dinner.

The lamb chops were bought at Jusco. I marinated them with black pepper sauce and bakar dalam oven for 20 mins at 190C. Mushroom gravy buat caca marba sesuka hati tokok tambah sendiri ikut resepi ni. Brocolli rebus....well rebus like normal without preservatives.

So, yang confirm2 menjadi and recommended is the french fries. I was particularly inspired by this one recipe but my version is much simpler and most importantly, the ingredients are not fancy and readily available in your own kitchen.

Ingredients:

2 potatoes
Ikut suka hati - all purpose flour, garlic powder (rasa minced garlic pun ok), salt & black pepper.

Cara masak:

Slice potatoes into French fries, basuh and sejat.
Combine all purpose flour, garlic powder, salt & black pepper with the sliced potatoes. Gaul2 sekata.
Heat oil, goreng satu2 until golden brown. Sejat atas kitchen towel.
Siap.

Verdict? Sgt2 sedap. This would definitely be THE recipe for french fries...for our family la. Tengok la ni Ms. Kecik enjoying the food:

We have been toying with the idea for quite some time already. But we have been delaying/postponing it due to other commitments. Thought this would be a good idea to keep the bake shop 'alive' as well as to share the knowledge/tips that we have...yang tak seberapa ni.

Featured Friday is a weekly section in Izzy B, featuring all the tried and tested recipes by the no other than yours truly. In short, Featured Friday would feature recipe/pictures/food that we had tried and tested at home. They should be easy enough for even the beginners can follow and try the recipes at home.

Baking Inspired: A Strawberry Shortcake Birthday Cookie Bouquet

Our latest order came from a colleague who is celebrating her daughter's 5th birthday today. She ordered a cookie bouquet, which we never did before but had attended a class to learn. So, this should be our opportunity to experiment on the cookie and the deco.

The theme is strawberry shortcake. We google-d 'strawberry shortcake' to find some inspirations online and found this:

Pastu, google-d some more, only to find more and more inspirations for cookie bouquet which is the customer wants. Since the birthday party is for a girl, we are particularly attracted to pinks or any soft colors. And this looks just perfect for the occasion:

It suits the colors that we are looking for a girl's birthday party and of course, strawberry comes in red/pink. The real deal would of course, combined the 2 inspirations together..but in a tin bucket. We are so excited about the whole thing. Let's see how they turned out!
